Safe, Healthy and Vibrant Neighborhoods

People need to feel safe in their neighborhoods, at work and in their homes. Mary will continue to work with community leaders and associations to increase the safety, health, and vibrancy of our communities. Knowing public safety is a growing concern and communities are doing all they can, Mary will seek ways to increase allocations to the police precincts that serve our district. Mary also understands that the health of our communities begins with healthy individuals. She believes that everyone should have equal access to reliable and affordable healthcare, and is committed to strong enforcement of laws to protect our public health and the environment. In addition to making our communities more sustainable through legal means, Mary sees opportunities to address environmental problems and rising unemployment rates through the creation of jobs within the green economy. While increasing employment is important in stabilizing our city, Mary will also push for neighborhood revitalization through support of local and small business development and in an increase in affordable quality housing, foreclosure prevention, and home ownership incentives.
