I am pleased and proud to announce today that our campaign has just won the official endorsement of the state’s largest and most influential union of teachers and educators, the Maryland State Education Association (MSEA). I am also glad to see that the MSEA has rewarded the hard work my veteran District 43 team colleagues have done to support our city schools by endorsing Sen. Joan Carter Conway, Del. Curt Anderson and Del. Maggie McIntosh (note: is it true that they endorsed the whole team?).
As I’ve said again and again throughout this campaign, nothing is more important to our city’s future than building strong schools that give all our children the tools they need to build better and more prosperous lives. That’s why I am so eager to work with the other members of our district team in Annapolis to ensure that our public schools get every dollar they need and that the state fulfills its obligation to fully fund teachers’ salaries and pensions so that we can hire the best possible educators to help our children prepare for a brighter future.
I will also work hard to see that the city gets a bigger share of state funds for school construction and renovation so that Baltimore can build and re-build the kind of high-quality, modern schools all our children can be proud to attend.
The MSEA has long been one of the state’s most tireless and powerful voices for strengthening our public schools and ensuring that every child in Maryland can get a quality education. Earning the support of its 71,000 dedicated teachers and educators is an honor for me personally and a real tribute to our campaign’s commitment to building stronger schools.
As your Delegate in Annapolis, and I look forward to working with MSEA members, educators across the state and the citizens of Baltimore to make all our schools safe and inspiring places to learn.
