Getting Results
Mary Washington’s work gets results for the people of Baltimore.
- As the first director of Baltimore’s HousingStat program, Mary made the city’s housing department more efficient and more responsive to citizens. Her worked saved the taxpayers money and helped Baltimore Housing department bring affordable housing to thousands of city residents.
- As the associate director of a major nonprofit organization that works to restore and increase awareness about the urban environment, Mary organized and recruited green jobs for more than 600 city youths. Her work has also educated thousands of young people about sound environmental stewardship.
- As a member of the Baltimore City Sustainability Commission, Mary helped develop the Baltimore City Sustainability Plan and now helps oversee its implementation and manage city water policy. Her work is making Baltimore a greener, more sustainable city.
- As a representative of the 43rd District on the Maryland Democratic State Central Committee, Mary recommended and now serves on its Early Voting Task Force. Her work will give more Marylanders the opportunity to make their votes count.
- As an elections trainer for the University of Baltimore’s Schaefer Center for Public Policy, Mary has trained hundreds of city voting judges. Her work helped to make free and fair elections a reality in the city.
- As a member of the Baltimore City Complete Count Committee, Mary is working to see that every city resident gets counted in the 2010 Census. Her work helps ensure the city will get the funding it needs for schools and other critical services and the full representation it deserves in Washington and Annapolis.
- As president of the Abell Improvement Association, Mary brought neighbors together to make north Baltimore’s neighborhoods better. Her work led area homeowners to improve their properties and helped bring new lighting and other services to the Barclay area.
- As a construction captain for “Our Playground at Stadium Place” project, Mary helped turn the vision of a playground on the old Memorial Stadium grounds into a reality. Her work helped create new recreation opportunities for city kids.
- As an elder in the First and Franklin Street Presbyterian Church, Mary successfully pushed her church to endorse a Friend of the Court brief supporting the Deane and Polyak lawsuit for equal marriage rights for Maryland’s gay and lesbian citizens. Her work helped strike a blow for equality for all Maryland’s families.
Throughout her career, Mary has brought city residents from all walks of life together to solve city problems. Just think what she will do for us when we send her to Annapolis.
