Washington Picks Up Two Key Endorsements
The Baltimore AFRO American Newspaper and the Baltimore City Paper Support Washington’s Run for the House

BALTIMORE, MD— Endorsements for Dr. Mary Washington’s campaign for Delegate of the 43rd District in Baltimore City keep rolling in. On Friday, September 1, 2006, The Baltimore AFRO American Newspapers not only spotlighted Washington’s push to Annapolis, but also her “unique ability to analyze and provide answers to sociological issues affecting the community.” Washington is no stranger to the plight of her fellow citizens. As the former Director of the city’s HousingStat department, she sought solutions to the lack of affordable and safe housing for individuals and families.

Washington believes in accountability and the need for citizens to have an active voice in their communities. The AFRO also cited Washington’s endorsement by the Interdenominational Ministers Alliance (IMA). This isn’t the first time the paper has focused on Mary Washington. In July 2006, The AFRO chronicled Washington’s motivation for running, her approach to the campaign and what she feels the community needs to succeed.

“I want the people to know that I believe in reaching out across the district and that I want to represent our full community, united together for the common purpose of improving all our lives” says Washington of the endorsement. The AFRO joins a list of other key endorsements including ACORN, the Interdenominational Ministers Alliance, and the Victory Fund.

On Wednesday, September 6, 2006, Mary Washington received the Baltimore City Paper’s endorsement. “Mary Washington is exactly the kind of rookie challenger we wish these state races served up on a regular basis.” An analysis of the 43rd District race continues in Anna Ditkoff’s “Is this Seat Taken?” in the same issue.

“I am thrilled to have the support of these local newspapers. It reaffirms my message to the district – that I am running as a candidate who will represent the communities of Northeast Baltimore well in Annapolis.”

We’re just days away from the primary. Let’s send Mary Washington to Annapolis! Please contact our Election Day Committee at volunteer@electmarywashington.com or 410-951-9795 to let us know if you are available to volunteer a few hours on September 12th!
